PTFE-free lubricants have a significantly lower CO₂ footprint. While PTFE-containing products have a carbon footprint of 7–10 kg CO₂-eq./kg, PTFE-free alternatives generate only about 3 kg CO₂-eq./kg. Additionally, PTFE-free lubricants do not contain per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS), also known as "forever chemicals." These compounds do not break down in the environment, accumulate in organisms, and are suspected of being harmful to health. Fluorinated base chemicals or auxiliaries used in PTFE production are toxic, persistent, and can cause lasting contamination of soil and water. This particularly harms sensitive ecosystems and certain organisms. PTFE-free lubricants completely eliminate this risk.
